Brand New Signature Programming from Turks and Caicos

Since we are never done bringing you new and exciting segments, now we’re taking you back to Turks and Caicos.

In Fruits de la Mer, you’ll get an exclusive look at O’Soleil Restaurant at The Somerset on Grace Bay. Go inside this urban-style restaurant right in the heart of Providenciales, with its modern white-on-white décor, soaring ceilings and low-lit chandeliers providing an intimate and romantic ambience. Here you’ll meet executive chef Lauren Callighen, who tells us about her Canadian roots and simplistic, yet innovative style of Mediterranean-Caribbean cooking.

O'SOLEIL_448x300Follow Callighen into the kitchen where she whips up some of her favorite specialties in an O’Soleil Trio, including a pistachio-crusted seared sea scallop, a spin on the classic Caesar salad with plantain croutons, roasted pumpkin soup with tamarind and braised oxtail ravioli. Next up she prepares a filet of red snapper straight from the waters of South Caicos, paired with coconut milk and mango risotto.

Beach, Seas and Ship

Just in!

Well, if there was any doubt about the need for warm, sunny getaways, just look at the weather this past week:  Near-zero wind chill factors in the Midwest, rain and snow in the West, and a blizzard forecast for the East Coast this weekend.  Can the Caribbean seem ever more appealing?   Well, I’m happy to report that it looks to be a good season for great deals.  After debilitating cutbacks in service in 2008/09, the Caribbean is getting new routes:  New flights to Aruba, St. Thomas, Punta Cana, Jamaica and St. Lucia.   Airfare deals are back, too:  $99 from New York to Bermuda or Puerto Rico, for instance.    Hotels are aggressive, too.  The Renaissance Aruba Resort is offering 40% off for winter travel with a 5 night stay for only $759 per person.   Add airfare from New York, and it’s $1105.   There is even an airfare on American Airlines from Los Angeles for $432 to Aruba–making it $1191 with hotel tax, transfers and service (air tax is additional–always depends on your routing, but is up to $158 more.)

My best Caribbean advice this holiday season is to book early for Winter ‘10.  With weather like this, the flights will fill up, and the prices will go up.  Get your calendars out now and plan!

Paradise Island Bahamas

Just in!

Our best last minute deal is to the all-inclusive RIU Paradise Island in the Bahamas.  Travel before 12/23 and receive a free upgrade and a $25 spa credit! The RIU has a great beachfront location and is within walking distance of the casinos and shops on Paradise Island, Nassau’s premier resort area.  Prices start at $559 with air from Miami, and there are plenty of airfare connections from other major cities such as New York, Philadephia, Atlanta and Charlotte for an additional fee.

Winter Week in the Sun

The St. Kitts Marriott has a great winter deal:  Stay 7 nights and pay for only 4–the 5th, 6th and 7th nights are free!  Packages start from $1310 per person from New York.  St. Kitts is one of the lesser-known Caribbean islands and has maintained an island feel that has evaded the commercialization of so many islands.  From the green hills and peaks of the island to the stunning beaches, this is a great new discovery for the Caribbean traveler!
